So, here’s apparently what is “hip” with you kids today. Some of it’s okay, and some of it I really don’t understand at all, and some of it really makes me question my friendship with Becca.

Tik Tok-Ke$ha: Okay, first off, you know it’s an awesome song because her name isn’t Kesha, but Ke$ha. She’s got a freaking dollar sign in her name. She pretty much just created a whole new level of cool. But, there is something to worry about: her hygiene. Seriously, I would be extremely worried about her if she were my friend. I mean, with lines like “Brush my teeth with a bottle of Jack,” her dentist is probably DYING. God, her breath must smell like shit. And I definitely could not make up some of the song rhymes when I was in first grade. I mean, “Pedicures on our toes, toes;  trying on all our clothes, clothes; boys blowing up our phones, phones?!” Far too complex for me.

Fireflies- Owl City: Becca has an extremely unhealthy obsession with Owl City. Thanks to me, who introduced it to her. If you’re going to listen to Owl City, you’re going to have to have the stomach for sicky-sweet pop music that’s all about sunshine, daisies, and sock-hops beneath your bed.

Kiss me Thru the Phone- Soulja Boy: God, why am I friends with her. I can’t stand this song and I’ve got to put up with Becca singing it on vchat all the time. To me, it sounds like it’s talking about phone sex. And how hard is it to come up with more than 2 lines to repeat over and over and over again? I swear to god, all I hear is “Baby you know that I miss you” and “kiss me through the phone” and “I miss your complexion.” Wow, her complexion? She must have good skin care for him to put it in a freaking song. And I pity the person who actually has the number they sang in the song.

Replay- Iyaz: When I think of this song, I think of Becca leaving me a voicemail singing the entire song without the help of any music or lyrics. And then, I think of how the song was stuck in my head for about a week. I think this is one of the first mainstream song I’ve heard with a guy talking about how he wants to make a girl his wife. And if his iPod is stuck on replay that fucking much, he should probably take it to Geek Squad or something.

Oh. My. God. It looks so amazing. I am not sure if I will be able to wait a whole year just to see it, but will I be at the midnight release dressed in full costume?

Seriously, Twilight is a JOKE compared to New Moon. Whereas Twilight was awkward and low-budget and green-tinted, New Moon was smooth and suspenseful. Alessia and I got there a little late, but we managed to snag some quality (joke) seats in the front section of the theater. Of course, that meant watching Jake reveal his abs at least 10 feet closer.. so, who’s complaining? Not me ;]

This is where the spoilers start. If you haven’t seen the movie, stop reading. Seriously, don’t come crying to me when I ruin the movie for you just because you didn’t listen to me.

Okay, if you’re still reading, then that means either you’ve already watched NM or you enjoy having movies spoiled for you. Let’s begin (:

First off, it seems like everyone got made over. Seriously, the hair cuts were so much sleeker and sophisticated. Also, the make up was less drastic. I think they made Kristen tanner so the Cullens would not have to be as pale.

Ooh and the Volturi. They were amazingly evil and played their parts perfectly. Of course, I’m still not sure how much I like Jamie Campbell Bower though. He just seemed really awkward. Dakota Fanning was insane. She portrayed Jane exactly like I imagined Jane to be. And the fight scene was intense. I thought it was kinda weird how Edward’s cheek cracked. I mean, I get the stone reference, but still. And I have a problem with one part of the fight scene. In one scene, it shows that one of the Volturi (I don’t remember which) has Alice, but since Alice can see what move they are about to make, how was she caught?

Also, didn’t it seem like the movie was a lot brighter and colorful? Twilight seemed to have a permanent tint of green, but I felt like NM was a lot more vivid and alive.

I was a little skeptical on how they were going to make “ghost Edward” not cheesy, but they really pulled it off. He was ghostly, but not in a bad Hollywood effect way. It was subtle, no weird effects. I really liked the part where Bella was in the water and the image of Edward appears, but her hand brushes away when Jacob pulls her out of the water. Speaking of special effects. Did anyone else notice the increased wattage of Edward’s shimmer? And the sound effects? It still was bad, but it was definitely an improvement from the glistening sweaty glitter they had going on in Twilight.

Now let’s not forget our favorite werewolf. Oh, Jacob Black. Man have those 40 pounds done him good. When he first took his shirt off, I actually managed to restrain myself and let all the other girls in the theater freak out and clap. The amount of moms wolf-whistling and cheering was kind of disturbing. Cougars…

I’m sure I’ve forgotten a lot of key parts in the movie, but I’m really behind in getting this out so I’m trying to make it quick. I may go back and add things later (:

Now, honestly, who is going back to see it again? … don’t lie, you are too ;]

HOWEVER, I’d just like to say one thing to all the girls that wore the New Moon shirt (the one with all of the cast looking especially angsty) to school:

Hey everyone (: as you can see, there’s been some changes made to the blog.

First off, new layout! I was waiting for Dan to finish the layout he’s making for me, but he’s currently preoccupied with college applications so I decided to change it up myself.

Also, there’s been a new addition to the blog. From now on, Alessia will be posting about music and random bands that you’ve probably never heard of. So, prepare for your musical education to begin.

I have way better musical taste than Becca. No Lie. Which is why I’m here: to save her readers from the doom her musical influences would bring.
I’m pretty much saving your life. Anyway, most of the stuff I post will probably be of bands you’ve never heard of, but you must, must check them out!

So, for my first post, here’s a playlist of what I’m listening to right now and about the songs. Click on the links to get to the artists’ Myspaces where you can liten to a bunch of their music.

Fit 4 U- The Young Knives: Definitely upbeat rock from a nice indie band… with a British accent. Yum. It’s from their Superabundance album which has got one of my other favorite songs by them, Up All Night. They’re both the types of songs you can’t help but sing along with… in British accents. I’m not even going to deny it.

Young Folks- Peter Bjorn and John: This song is catchy from the start, the whistling tune will be stuck in your head for the rest of the day. Peter Morén’s entrancing, slightly accented voice is accompanied by Victoria Bergsman’s beautiful falsetto. Their duet is fucking amazing. The lyrics are beautiful; you can’t help but listen, understand, and relate. Love, love, love, love. I know it came out in 2006, but I’m still infatuated.

Very Busy People- The Limousines: A nice electric beat, reminds me a lot of MGMT all the way to the vocals. It’s actually a pretty funny song, talking about the downfall of humanity due to our laziness. “We’ll end up numb from playing video games and we’ll get sick of having sex.”

Ludlow St.- Julian Casablancas: Okay, I’m pretty biased here. I’m infatuated with Julian Casablancas, all of his work with one of my favorite bands ever, The Strokes, and now his new solo album, Phrazes for the Young. One of my favorites off of the album is Ludlow St. with Casablancas’s smooth as sandpaper, unique voice especially apparent on this track. It talks about the lack of urban identity in cities these days, particularly Casablancas’s home, NYC, where Ludlow St is. Phrazes for the Young definitely covers a broad spectrum of genres and mixtures, but if you’re looking for more Folk/Rock listen to Ludlow St. or Out of the Blue. I’m definitely going to be talking more about this album another time. Because Julian Casablancas is the sex. No Lie.

French Navy- Camera Obscura: I love this song, it’s romantic enough to warm the depths of my cynical heart. It’s got a cute story, one portrayed perfectly by the lead singer’s voice. I listen to this song on repeat… then sing it… and annoy Becca. It’s awesome.

So, please, please, please check out those songs! And hopefully I’ll be back, unless Becca decides she hated this.

I was planning on going to see Men Who Stare at Goats, but being 16 has its drawbacks I guess. Anyway, so instead of seeing MWSAG, I saw Where the Wild Things Are. Alessia was super excited because of the music, which was okay I guess (she’s going to kill me once she sees this). Anyway, the movie actually turned out to be really good, but not as sad as I expected. I mean, I definitely teared up, but I was expecting to cry… my purse was stocked with sad-movie necessities like tissues and water-proof mascara. The one thing I thought was weird was the fact that the book is this kid-friendly picture book, but the movie was actually pretty violent. I mean, I’m surprised that little boy did not die or get hurt at all… he was pushed down a sandy slope, had clods of dirt chucked at him, … I mean, seriously? I guess they had to make the movie more interesting somehow. And who doesn’t like to watch a little kid get giant clods of dirt chucked at him?

Speaking of movies, NEW MOON is fast approaching. 3 days. Ahhhhhhhhh. Please allow me this fangirl moment… after waiting for months, I think every fan (even a closet-fan) deserves a freak out fan girl week. So, definitely seeing it on Friday with Alessia… not gonna lie, I’m super excited.

Ah, I know, I’m a little late… but I actually have a legitimate reason this time! For the past two weeks, I’ve been grounded from my phone and laptop due to having a Facebook and not wanting to be a doctor… yeah. I know. I’m such a trouble child, it’s ridiculous. Anyhoooooooo. I thought I’d just welcome myself back with a nice little rant on:

Slutty Halloween costumes. Well, actually, just one in particular: the slutty school girl.

I saw so many school girls this Halloween it’s insane. What’s worse is that many of said school girls were school girls LAST Halloween also! Seriously? I do realize Halloween is the one day girls can wear short plaid skirts and a bra out in public, but can we be a little more creative here? I mean, shouldn’t there at least be some kind of limit to the number of years you can dress up as a naughty school girl?

Oh well. I guess it could be worse with the Twilight craze going on… so thank you, slutty school girls, for not dressing up as Bella Swan.

SUE is back by popular demand :]

Even though tennis is over, I’m still going to talk about her because she is possibly even more annoying outside tennis… but that’s a different story. Let’s talk tennis.

So Sue, being a hardcore amazing tennis player (NOTTTTTT), has several unique ways of getting ready for balls. First, there’s the kangaroo jump. Now my coach is always saying that you should do a couple ready hops right before your opponent returns the ball, I understand that, but jumps? I’m not even joking about this. She gets about three feet of air… AND SHE DOES TWO. I suggest we all start doing these jumps… maybe it’ll improve our play because Sue is definitely way better than any of us on varsity will be.

Another thing our beloved Sue does is bend over realllly far when she’s waiting to return the ball. She seriously acts like she’s about to return freaking Andy Roddick’s serve. You would think that with all this preparation, she’d actually hit the ball… but no. It usually flies out… or she completely misses.

But the greatest of all Sue’s tennis tactics? HER GRUNT. Oh. My. God. Now, I can understand grunting when you’re really slamming a ball back, but that is not what Sue does. Sue pulls her racket back and then taps it over. Suddenly you’ll hear a “gahrrhrhrhrhrh!” How could a hit as puny as that elicit a grunt out of someone? There’s literally no force behind it whatsoever! Oh well, I’m not here to judge. Maybe she has a really heavy racket…

Or maybe she just sucks. Yeah, that’s probably it. Oh Sue, you make tennis so much fun.

PS. Some people on the team were asking Sue about tennis next year and she thinks she’s playing singles… we’ll see about that.

I really like how open she is in this interview (maybe our K-Stew is getting better at these interviews after all!) It kind of has a raw feeling to it that makes it sound a lot less superficial than previouis interviews. I have to say that K-Stew really does not hold back in this interview. Cuss words galore. So if that doesn’t bother you, definitely give the interview a look. It’s an interesting read. (:
