My life as a medical intern, day fifteen.

At last, the day I’ve been waiting for… the last day of work! WOOHOO.
So I spent this lovely day cutting up muscle fibers and putting them on slides (I’m a PRO at that now). Umm, I think that’s it.. then I played some games online. So productive!
I need to pack asap, hahaha. I leave for China in 3 days and I haven’t started yet! Oops? Oh well, I’ll have it done by Monday! Usually I draft the Weekly Who Review on Fridays, but I forgot to today so I will draft it on Saturday and then post it on Sunday (so basically, nothing will be different!) It’s so nice having a laptop with internet in my room… even though it’s not mine.
XO, Becca.
PS. I did NOT steal the laptop, don’t call the police.

Good lord, it’s only been 2 weeks? It seems like I’ve been doing this internship for my entire life. Seriously, in 2 weeks, I’m almost done watching every single video on jakeandamir.com (and that’s like hundreds of videos)
Anyhoo, so today I was supposed to do the whole microsurgery shabang by myself. I hate mice live, I hate mice dead, I hate mice with their heads cut off, I hate mice with their skin pinned down and their insides showing. Basically, I totally chickened out and ended up watching. Pahaa, I would suck as a doctor.
4 days till China :]] I’m so excited! I downloaded a bunch of songs off iTunes for my ‘travel playlist.’ There’s a lot of Kings of Leon, a little Black-Eyed Peas, some Parachute, lots of Muse, etcetc. I need to start packing though!!! I’m such a procrastinator.

So these posts have turned into me telling you about my day since I do nothing at work… it’s mainly because Dr. Teng is busy preparing a report and there’s nothing for me to do (: just how I like it! (This concludes the ‘internship’ portion of the post)
I’ve already gotten a suggestion for my 2k Views Video, but I think I’ll keep it as a surprise… and also, I don’t want to get your hopes up only to ruin it when I change my mind. So hurry up and get 2k views before I change my mind ;] Pahaa.
I spent all day comparing laptops today. The Dell Studio 14z versus the Macbook. I’m reallllllly leaning towards the Macbook, but what are your opinions?? I need help!
If you know anything about computers (or have either of the two mentioned laptops) definitely comment/email me and give me advice!

Alrighty so today was just a bad day. I mean, I seriously couldn’t have a more off day than today. I was going to wake up early today to put the movie on my flashdrive, but I slept in and woke up 10 minutes before my ride was supposed to pick me up. Then while I was getting frantically getting ready, I knocked over my liquid foundation and it spilled all in the sink. And once I actually got to the car, I whacked my head on the car frame (I had a headache from that for about an hour..)
But enough about my troubled morning, on to the intern news.
Errr, intern news. Well I went to a safety training class and then spent about an hour slicing eye muscle. Then I scoured the Internet for news, but found little. Sooooo, an average day. Wow, it’s my last week at this internship and I really haven’t learned that much. Sad.

Today is supposed to be 99 degrees outside with a heat index of 105-110. The perfect day to layout and enjoy the pool, but no. I’m at work pipetting water. My latest job is to check to make sure the pipettes are working because the calibrator guy is coming in. FUN!!!! </sarcasm> Anyway, so after pipetting water to and from a plastic cup on a scale for 3 hours, I’ve finally had a chance to sit down and blog. I feel really bad that I was not able to upload the 1k Views video for today, but I will work on it tonight! I don’t understand why it wouldn’t let me upload it… I mean, it let me upload every single one of my five mess-ups… stupid camera. Note to self: you may want to invest in a video camera if you’re going to start shooting videos.
Blehhh. Other than that, I didn’t really do much. I have a Safety Training course tomorrow for an hour (YES!!!!)
In other news: Perez Hilton is assaulted (by will.i.am’s manager), huge scandal is created! Twitter war commences between Perez and will.i.am! World is split into Team Perez and Team will.i.am! (I hope you guys don’t think I’m SERIOUSLY concerned by all of this)
Oh and tonight is supposed to be the “life-changing announcement” for Jon and Kate Plus Eight. Hopefully it’s saying that their show has been cancelled and Speidi has been sent to an asylum.

Today was back to staining muscle fibers… man, this gets monotonous. Dr. Teng had talked to me about maybe started physiology experiments, but I guess that’s a no-go. He did, however, give me over 16 GB worth of American karoke music (so… definitely a PLUS!) Hahaha, Chinese people and their karoke.
Update on the car deal: So it (surprisingly) made it to the dealer which is really good news, but the bad news is the repairs add up to $2100. Gah! Err, yeah… so, that kind of sucks. Oh well, we reached 1000 views today!! I’ll be filming the new video this weekend so get excitedddd ;]] and be warned: there will be singing. Am I a singer? Nope. Can I sing? Nope. It’ll be greaaaaat, haha.

Ok, it’s official, I do nothing at work. Today, I went to a board meeting… and that’s it. But speaking of said meeting, it was so sad. The higher-ups are so rude… Dr. Teng was presenting today and seriously his boss interrupted him every 5 seconds and would ask a question then ignore him and play with his iPhone. And then the bitchiest lady ever started yelling at him, I was like… wtf? Seriously, I do not want to work here, I would probably end up quitting… or stabbing that bitch.
So yeah, I am getting nothing out of this internship… hahaha, at least I know what I don’t want to do in life.
But on a brighter note, due to my lack of activity at work… I managed to get a lot of stuff done for the blog! I’ve almost finished drafting this week’s Weekly Who Review :] Oh the things you can accomplish when you have nothing to do at work! And by the looks of things, I’m going to have to start planning my 1k Views video very soon (you guys are beyond amazing!)

So today it was back to mice genocide, but oddly I’ve almost become desensitized to the inhumane ways of science. Seriously, I was all “Oh hey, that mouse is dying in a gas chamber… hmm, I wonder what I’m eating for lunch today?” True Life: Science has turned me into a monster, coming soon — watch it ;]
Anyway… after Renaldo, Jemima, Donald, Sally, and Perkins (yes, I named them, so what?) I sliced their muscle fibers onto micro-slides.
And that’s all I’ve done from 9-4… and I can almost guarantee that I won’t be doing anything for the last hour… I think Dr. Teng may have given up on me, or maybe he’s out of ideas for things I can waste my time doing. Whatever his reasoning, I’m not really bothered by how monotonous my day has become… all the more time to spend blogging ;] I’m such a loser, don’t you love it? I do.
More tomorrow!

My life as a medical intern, day seven.
June 15, 2009
Alright, so I didn’t go to work on Friday because I was preparing for the ACT (which was Saturday… yay?) Haha, I ended up spending all of Friday drafting things for the blog, but I think I did pretty well ACT-wise. I took a practice ACT about a month ago and scored a 30 overall, soooo I should be ok :] Not to mention the English section was a breeeeze. The math and science? Not so much. Anyhooo…
Today was pretty boring… I was able to get away from the dead mice and go back to staining muscle fibers! Yayyy. I’m serious, it’s the best. Every 5 minutes I wash the slides and then I put the antibodies on it and wait an hour, then I wash them again. It’s so easy and I have tons of free time inbetween. :]]
Ummm, yeah so that’s basically all I did today… it’s weird, already 4:30! I feel like I haven’t accomplished anything haha. Oh well, hopefully things with the blog starts picking back up… I need to get my blog daily views back up to 100 ;] *hinthinthint.

June 11, 2009
Well, today was definitely interesting. Horrible, cruel, nightmare-causing. But interesting, nonetheless. Basically by 11 am, I had watched 2 mice die in a gas chamber… wow, Holocaust much? Dr. Teng assured me that gas chambers were the most humane way of killing them… Yeah, sure, tell that to the twitching rodent dying in a cage.
And then after I had to witness these poor mice being gassed, Dr. Teng showed me how to “nicely” cut off their heads with scissors. Only one word can describe my afternoon of beheading mice: Ew.
I’m not sure if I want tomorrow to be anymore interesting… let’s go back to “reading” instruction manuals! Then, I’d have more time to post new blogs. Today was a lame-blog day, only 30 views. (FAIL BECCA) It’s only because I spent all my free-time today working on the New Moon and HBP pages! New Moon is done, go check it out! HBP will be up hopefully sometime this week.
XO, Becca.
